PSU Trustee's Notebook
Architect hired for several athletic facilities projects
L. Robert Kimball / Associates and DLR Group will be the architects for several athletic facilities projects at Penn State, including the baseball facilities that could be either renovated or rebuilt.
The university's board of trustees voted Friday to approve hiring the architectural firms to design plans for the baseball, softball and soccer facilities.
Whether the university will renovate the Beaver Field baseball facility or build a new facility depends on whether the state releases funds to pay for the extra cost of a new facility.
The university and the owners of the Altoona Curve have been discussing a partnership that would bring a minor league team from the New York-Penn League to the field.
That could happen if a new field is built.
The trustees also gave the university the go-ahead on plans to expand and renovate Rec Hall.
The project could cost as much as $13.3 million and will include expanded facilities for the wrestling team and a new fitness center. The addition will face Atherton Street.
The trustees approved accepting bids and awarding contracts for the work.
